Lussekatter/Lucia Bun

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 pkg dry yeast (sweet dough yeast is best)
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2 cup + 2 Tbsps milk
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsps cardamom
  • 5 1/2 cups flour

Topping

  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • Raisins

Instructions

Melt butter in a pot, let cool, and add milk.

Mix the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, cardamom, and turmeric in a bowl. Pour the milk stuff in and mix until the dough forms. Cover and let rise until double the size.

Knead the dough on a floured surface. Roll gently into a log and cut dough into bun sizes. Roll each piece out into 1/4-1/2inch links. Shape them into a double spiral and place on a baking sheet. Cover with plastic and let rise for 15 minutes. Glaze with a beaten egg and add a raisin in the center of each swirl.

Bake at 435°F for 5-8 minutes. Let them cool on a rack.
